Components of a gas chromatograph

Jun 05, 2023

The composition of a gas chromatograph (GC) includes a sample processing system, an injection system, a gas separation column, a detector, and a data processing system.

Sample processing systems typically include two parts: sample pretreatment and sample pretreatment, which may involve techniques such as solid-phase extraction, liquid-liquid extraction, elution, and enrichment.

The injection system is mainly divided into two types: liquid injection and gas injection. Liquid injection is mainly achieved through automatic or manual samplers, while gaseous injection is mainly achieved through manual and automatic samplers.

The gas phase separation column is the most crucial part of a gas chromatograph, and the separation column is mainly divided into two types: capillary column and packed column. Capillary columns are mainly separated by capillary tubes, while packed columns are separated by the interaction between internal fillers and the gas phase.

The detectors mainly include flame ionization detector, electron capture detector, thermal conductivity detector, etc. Flame ionization detectors are commonly used and can detect most organic substances, but their detection range is limited.

The data processing system includes functions such as data collection, processing, analysis, and reporting, which can convert detected data into chromatograms for analysis and interpretation.
