Testing principle of flash point tester

May 24, 2023

A flash point meter is an instrument used to measure the flash point of liquids or liquefied gases. The testing principle is based on the generation of steam by liquids or liquefied gases at a certain temperature. When this steam encounters a fire source, it will ignite and form a flash, known as the flash point.

During the flash point testing process, the sample is added to the test cup in the flash point tester and then heated by a heating device. As the sample temperature increases, steam is gradually generated and sent into the flash point meter. In the testing room of the flash point instrument, there is another ignition device that ignites towards the steam spark when the steam in the sample reaches the combustion state, forming a flash, which is called the flash point.

Therefore, the testing principle of a flash point meter is to measure the vapor generated by a liquid or liquefied gas at a certain temperature, as well as the time and temperature at which this vapor produces a combustion flash after encountering an ignition source, in order to determine the flash point of the sample.

Test process

Load the sample into a test cup, heat the test cup containing test oil, and use the lowest temperature of the generated petroleum vapor and the condensed synthetic gas formed by the surrounding air as the flash point when it comes into contact with the flame and causes a flash fire. The flash point instrument computer sends instructions based on the collected temperature changes, controls the heater, and causes the test oil temperature to rise at a certain rate. The scanning cycle, ignition time, differential detection, etc. are all automatically controlled. When the flash fire is detected, the computer system stops data collection, displays the flash fire temperature, and prints the recorded results. The heating is stopped, the flame is turned off, and the large arm is automatically lifted. The experiment ends
