HZBS-3 ASTM D93 Pensky Martin Flash Point Tester

Function Overview

The HZBS-3 automatic closed cup flash point tester adopts advanced imported technology, featuring a high-response color touch screen that replaces conventional keyboard input for a more intuitive user experience. Specifically engineered to determine the closed flash point of petroleum products, this instrument integrates open-architecture fuzzy control software with a modular structural design. It fully complies with Chinese national standards as well as international specifications including ASTM (U.S. standards). It is widely deployed in railway transportation, aviation, electric power, petrochemical processing, and scientific research laboratories.

Working principle

Under the conditions stipulated by the national standard, the sample is placed into the test cup. The oil cup is heated, and as the oil vapor mixes with the ambient air, the lowest temperature at which the vapor ignites upon exposure to a flame is recorded as the flash point.

A digital signal processor controls the heater based on temperature changes, ensuring the test oil temperature rises at a constant rate. The system automatically controls ignition and flash detection. When a flash is detected, the system stops data collection, displays the flash temperature, prints the recorded results, and terminates heating.

Precautions and Instrument Maintenance

The instrument should be used in a non-corrosive environment.

The oil cup should be cleaned when replacing test samples.

Check that the thermocouple is free from oil contamination, otherwise it may affect detection sensitivity.

Do not touch the ignition head, oil cup, or surrounding parts during testing to avoid burns.

For instruments using electric ignition, the electric ignition head needs to be replaced regularly. Replace the ignition wire after 1000 ignitions (approximately 80–100 test runs).
