Precautions for SF6 equipment maintenance

Feb 21, 2023

The reaction ability is strong. When there is water and oxygen, it will react with electric materials and water further, thus decomposing to produce toxic or highly toxic gases. These toxic gases mainly damage the respiratory system of the human body. After poisoning, adverse reactions such as cold, skin allergy, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, etc. will occur. When inhaled in large doses, more serious consequences will occur.

Therefore, the following protective measures shall be taken during the maintenance and test of SF6 equipment:

(1) The working site shall be strongly ventilated, and the maintenance personnel shall be in the windward position;

(2) Wear gas mask and protective gloves;

(3) Recover the discharged gas, or discharge the gas into the sewer with a conduit, rather than directly discharge it into the atmosphere;

(4) Before the break or after work, wash your face, neck, arms and hands with soap and plenty of water;

(5) In case of accidental contact with large dose of gas, wash immediately, change clothes, and go to the hospital for observation and treatment in time.
