How to choose between dry-type test transformers and oil test transformers

Nov 24, 2023

With the improvement of user experience and product technology, we hope that our products are small and refined. Our original intention in developing products is also to consider whether it has cost-effectiveness and whether it can be loved by users. For example, if the dry test transformer is not limited by cost-effectiveness, we can adopt a new material with smaller capacity and lighter weight compared to the previous year, but it is limited to a large part of the customer base, We are leading products with cost-effectiveness.

Let's talk about how to choose commonly used dry-type test transformers and oil-immersed test transformers when purchasing. Firstly, they are single-phase transformers used for testing. Dry type test transformers use epoxy resin as insulation, which has the advantages of light weight, high impact current resistance, no oil leakage, and no maintenance. Epoxy resin is very fragile after drying, so special attention should be paid during use. Once it is broken, The maintenance cost is no less than that of a new product, and due to the limitations of insulation materials, the insulation level of dry-type transformers is particularly low when the voltage exceeds 120kV. It is generally recommended to consider purchasing a voltage level below 100kV.

Compared to the previous year, oil immersed test transformers have all advantages except for their heavy volume. Firstly, they are cheap in price. They use insulating oil as the insulation medium to soak the iron core in oil, so they are not limited by voltage and capacity. Currently, the maximum capacity and voltage can reach 300kvA/300kv. Oil immersed transformers have excellent performance, are easy to maintain, and have a larger volume and a quality increase of 10% -20% compared to dry-type transformers at the same capacity.
