Classification of High Voltage Dividers by Purpose

May 10, 2024

High voltage dividers can be divided into AC high voltage dividers, DC high voltage dividers, and impulse high voltage dividers according to their purposes.
AC high voltage divider: suitable for measuring power frequency AC high voltage. They can be divided into two categories: resistive and capacitive. Among them, capacitive AC voltage dividers are more widely used for measuring higher voltages because they do not consume power.
DC high-voltage divider: usually composed of two resistor elements, used to measure DC high voltage. They are suitable for voltage measurement on the low-voltage arm of high impedance voltmeters.
Impulse high-voltage voltage divider: used to measure non periodic pulse voltages that change rapidly and have multiple harmonic components, such as lightning shock waves. Impulse voltage dividers typically have good response characteristics to accurately measure waveform and amplitude. Their types include resistive, capacitive, and resistance capacitance hybrid.
