What are the quality requirements for transformer oil?

Nov 15, 2023

The transformer oil is installed in the oil tank and comes into contact with air through a respirator. When the transformer is powered on for operation, the high temperature caused by oxygen in the air, electrical energy loss, and the close contact between transformer oil and metal cause the oxidation, decomposition, or polymerization of hydrocarbons in the oil to form impurities such as acids, resins, asphalt, and coke, gradually leading to the deterioration of the oil quality of the transformer oil; The increase in acid value, increase in water content, and decrease in electrical withstand voltage will increasingly affect the safe operation of transformers if not treated in a timely manner and the quality of transformer oil is appropriately improved.

1. The higher the electrical insulation capacity (AC withstand voltage and insulation resistance), the better, which can ensure the safe operation of the transformer.

2. The smaller the specific gravity, the better, as it can make impurities and water easily sink.

3. The higher the flash point, the better it is, which can reduce the generation of flammable gases with explosion hazards.

4. The lower the viscosity, the better, which can improve the flowability and heat dissipation effect.

5. The lower the freezing point, the better. It can be used in cold areas and ensures good circulation to increase heat dissipation.

6. The lower the content of ash and impurities such as acid, alkali, and sulfur, the better, which can improve insulation strength and reduce the degree of corrosion to coils and insulation materials.

7. The lower the acid value, the better, which can reduce the degree of oxidation and delay the deterioration process of the oil.

8. The higher the safety, the better. When the oil is heated, the degree of oxidation into acidic substances and their precipitates is lighter.
