What are the factors that affect the interfacial tension of liquids?

Aug 27, 2023

The characteristics of liquid interfacial tension are closely related to the following factors:

1. It is related to the properties of the liquid itself, such as polarity, molecular size, types of intermolecular forces, and whether there are hydrogen bonds.

2. It is related to the properties of the interface material, especially when the interface is a solid. It is generally believed (experimentally obtained) that it is only related to the outermost layer of atoms or functional groups on the solid surface, and has little to do with the inner layer of atoms.

If it is a solid-liquid interface, it is also related to the roughness of the solid surface.
